I forgot I had this blog! Can you tell?  It has been so long since I posted here. I am so sorry. However, I am still praying - haven't forgotten to do that... So, let me know how I can pray for you!

It is 9-10-10 and I have a cousin in the hospital due to a staph infection.

How are You?

Also, while traveling in Ireland this month we met a lovely American woman who has been back home for a couple of weeeks now but is leaving tomorrow for ten day trip from Omaha, NE to Leon, Nicaragua to work with deaf children. I said we would pray (and I got the information if you want to send a few dollars to help with the work, so email me and I'll forward the info. along) The official name of the group that supports the school for deaf children is an acronym AMYPANS. In Spanish it means Association of Teachers and Parents of Deaf Children.
Here is her great email:
"The school currently has 18 children ages 4-8 learning how to sign in
Nicaraguan Sign Language and how to read and write in Spanish and do simple math. Without this school they would not have the opportunity to go to school or to learn how to communicate. One of the 4 year old kids was a big biter when she arrived at the school last year (when it started). As soon as she learned to sign she stopped all the
biting and uses her words (signs) when she wants something.
Additionally she has gotten the idea of words being made up of
letters. One day in May when I was there, instead of running
around during playtime/recess, she was sitting in front of the poster
with the signs for each letter practicing the signs for a-b-c--- She is
very smart and the school has unlocked her potential. She is also
very cute. All of the children are poor, some very poor without enough
food even. One of the children is HIV (his mother died of it last
year and he caught it prenatally). So he has some medical needs we are
trying to help with too. A church here in Omaha has been providing
some scholarships (it costs $480 a year in teacher salaries to educate
one child). We provide information about the child they are
sponsoring and have the child draw some pictures for their sponsor
and maybe write a few words (they are not very literate
yet). If you know of anyone or any group that would like to sponsor one of these kids, I could get you pictures and information and make the connection. We are working on a web site to sell pottery and other arts and crafts from Nicaragua in order to make money for the school. As soon as it is up and running I will let you know.We have several potters who sell to us at a low price, because they know it is for the school. When we go down tomorrow we will be taking extra suitcases filled with foam (to wrap the pottery in during the return trip). I am sure when the screeners pick up these monster big suitcases filled full (which weigh next to nothing because of the foam), they are going to wonder. We are also taking a deaf educator with us from the
university. She is doing a research project comparing American Sign
Language with Nicaraguan Sign Language. But she also is going to show teachers how to teach deaf children. Some of the teachers know how to sign, but they have had no training in the special
techniques that work well with deaf children. Thanks for the well
wishes. Continue to enjoy your Irish trip and think of us sweating our
brains out in the tropics after tomorrow. -A.C."

God Bless you, Karen

Grim news

While traveling Mom and I have gotten word that my cousin D has a very rare form of cancer and we are so sad. I don't know much right now. However, last year we lost a dear Aunt to this exact thing so we are thinking the worst! I will try to remember that God is not thinking the worst and have faith. Please Pray. Thanks be to God, karen

My Cousins' funeral today

Hi to all from Ireland. Thank you for your prayers, My Mother and I are fine and having a wonderful time. That said....I am so distressed to be missing my cousin Suzanne's funeral today in Los Angeles. My father has asked for prayer because he is conducting the funeral service and this is very difficult for him, as you can imagine. She was a few years younger than myself and the first of the cousins to die and, as a family bunch, we are in shock because it was so unexpected. Dad now has to bring God's comfort to his family in this sad time - not an easy task and he is feeling the weight of the job. He is however, supremely suited to this hard thing and Mother and I are just so sorry to be so far away and unable to do our part.
I will get to hear from father later what verses he is using today and I will get comfort from them at a later date and will try to share them here while i am able to use the cookery school computer, which is so much easier than using my phone.
Much Love to all, Karen

my heart is breaking...

Oh my, I am so heartbroken right now. My dear cousin, Suz has died. She was younger than me by a couple of years and her family - her Mother, two sister's and B.i.L's, neices and nephews - are still reeling from the death of her father last week. Her father had suffered for several years with dementia and his passing was anticipated, although feared. But Suz was young, in her mid 40's. She had suffered with chronic pain and other problems for years but her death was not expected at all. We, & by we I mean my cousins, her cousins, are a large bunch of first cousins, there are 28 of us, and even more amazing for such a large crowd, we are closeknit and happy (with exceptions, of course). Suz is our first cousin to pass away. I am bereft.
Suz was a stunningly beautiful woman, and just as beautiful on the inside -kind and good in every way. In the 80's, She worked at Nordstom in L.A. at the same time I worked at Nordstrom in San Diego and it was such fun to make interstores calls to search for merch for customers and get to talk to each other.
Please pray for All of us but especially her Mom and two sisters, as our whole family figures out why she died and comforts each other in this sad time.
Thank you for your prayers, Karen E.

Travel mercies

Dear PrayerTeam - I am off to Ireland for cooking school for the month of July and I have set my phone up to be able to blog while I am away..."says here!"
So, besides asking you to pray for safety on our (my Mom's going too) trip, please keep praying and posting while I am away. That way, if I can not blog as I have planned from Ireland, then you will know why I have not been heard from & can carry on praying for the needs and praises mentioned here until I return. I love praying for you.
-Karen

Phillipians 1:19 NIV
"Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance."
